The December Dress

Last year on New Years Day, I posted about how I was challenging myself to make at least one dress/month over the next twelve months.  In what seems like the blink of an eye, we are now at the last day of the last month of the year and the challenge, so I figured now was as good of a time as any to present my last dress.

This was NOT in any way the dress I had planned for this month.  In my original plan, I was going to use this gold foiled champagne lace fabric or this silvery white fabric I had purchased in 2012 for the December Dress.

Then, when my best friend decided she was going to have a small wedding ceremony, I planned to make a black and white lace dress to wear to her wedding.  Then a few weeks before the wedding, I got this inspiration to make this really cool plaid dress(which I will still make at some point).

Then the dress I made for my friend to wear just wasn’t the right style for her and I had to start over with her dress….then my grandmother passed away and we started making plans to go to the funeral.  Life got crazy really quickly and I didn’t think I’d have time to make a dress for her wedding.

I went to my closet of nice dresses, but half the dresses I’ve collected over the years don’t fit well anymore(I’m planning to turn some of them into skirts)…so I just really felt like I didn’t have anything to wear that I hadn’t worn a billion times already.

Plus I felt like I HAD to have something new, or at least special since I had made special dresses to wear to the weddings of friends earlier this year, but I was going to wear some old thing to my best friend’s wedding??

I mulled it over for awhile and went through my fabric stash and found this plummy faux silk I had purchased AGES ago intending to make this dress with.  I had used part of the fabric to make the bustier, purse and hair piece for my June Dress, so I didn’t have enough to make the Vogue pattern.

I almost gave up, then I went ahead and made a very simple bodice with a tea length pleated skirt.  I didn’t add pockets or finish off any of the seams.  The lining is completely mis-matched(and I didn’t even hem the lining yet ….haha)

I pretty much wore it exactly like this for the wedding(though my hair was better styled for the wedding).

I hope you all have a great New Year’s Eve, whether you’re partying it up or relaxing at home(like me!).  If I have time later, I will try to put together a year in review post.
